Olympic Ladies 1s open 2024-25 season with a great win in Ballynahinch

Newry Olympic Ladies 1s started their season off on a high after facing Ballynahinch in an away fixture on Saturday 28th September.

Newry started the match off strongly, putting pressure on Ballynahinch with their composure and fast-paced passing. There was strong play between the forwards (Yasmin Muldrew, Francesca Santoro Ferrer, Steph Smart) and midfielders (Shruti Suresh, Hilde Rabe, Rhianna Hale), which meant that Newry held most of the possession in the first quarter.

A few minutes into the second quarter, the Newry girls managed to get the ball around Ballynahinch’s defenders, passing to Francesca Santoro Ferrer who scored two incredible goals within a few minutes of each other. A perfect way to celebrate her debut for the club!

The girls came out in the second half determined to stay ahead, but Ballynahinch put the pressure on and managed to shift the play into Newry’s half. Newry keeper Katie McCullough made some excellent saves, frustrating Ballynahinch who were hoping to even out the score board.

Newry’s defenders (Chrissie McAuley, Laverne Inns, Robyn Harpur, Lisa Murdock, Rebecca Murdock) worked hard, tackling intensely, and passing wide to enable crash balls back into Ballynahinch’s half, maintaining their 2 – 0 lead up until the final whistle.

An amazing performance from all of the girls, and a well-deserved win that reflects all the hard work that the team and their coaches have been putting in during pre-season training.

The Ladies 1s play their first home game against Derg Valley at 1pm this upcoming weekend (5th October).

Back row: Katie McCullough (GK), Chrissie McAuley, Rhianna Hale, Hilde Rabe, Steph Smart, Lisa Murdock, Brian Lockhart (Coach).

Front row: Francesca Santoro Ferrer, Yasmin Muldrew, Shruti Suresh, Robyn Harpur, Rebecca Murdock (Captain), Laverne Inns.
