Newry Olympic Ladies 2s travelled to Ballynahinch on Friday 5 January to play the local club's 2nd XI under floodlights for their first match in 2024.
From the start, both teams fought hard and cancelled each other out in the first quarter as the period ended with no goals scored.
Newry settled into the game during the second quarter and a slick pass through the 'Hinch defence from Rhianna Hale found captain Laverne Inns at the top of the circle, who finished the goal with a strong strike into the bottom right hand side of the Hinch backboard.
With renewed confidence, Laverne picked up the ball along the back line, again following some beautiful stick work by Caragh McGaffin and then walloped the ball at the goalie with such force that it passed through the keeper pads and was spinning across the goal line when right wing Sarah McNeilly made sure and pushed it on to score a deserved second for the visitors, to take a two nil lead at half time.
The home side battled back for the following two quarters, however Newry 2s finished with a clean sheet and a great 2-0 win.
