On Sunday 15th September 2024, Newry Olympic Hockey Club's Golf Society made the final trip of the season to the stunning Templepatrick Golf Club in Co Antrim. Situated on 220 acres of beautiful park and woodland on the Castle Upton Estate. This superb 18-hole golf course, designed by David Jones and David Feherty, has been acclaimed as one of Northern Ireland's finest courses. A fitting venue for the finale of the golf society's season and the playoff for the society's Golfer of the Year.
Once again there was a big turnout and fine weather for the event.
In 1st Place on the day was Thomas Lockhart with a tremendous score of 36 on what was a challenging course.
In 2nd Place was Trevor Anderson, enough to secure him the overall Golfer of the Year title.
In 3rd Place came Mark McCullough.
The Closest to the Pin, was won by Alan Auterson.
And the award for Longest Drive went to Willie Nummy.
After three rounds, Trevor Anderson had a two point lead in the Golfer of the Year standings for the best three cards, but with the top three separated by just three points, there was still a long way to go in the final round!
As usual though Trevor played a solid round and did more than enough to secure second place on the day and claim the overall winning position for the season. A well deserved result for his consistency across all the rounds.
The Golf Society Committee would really like to thank Templepatrick Golf Club for letting our members play on their tremendous course and for use of their brilliant facilities.
Thanks from the society committee also go to everyone who attended on the day and to all those who participated in all the outings throughout 2024.
The schedule for 2025 is already being finalised, details to follow soon. The committee look forward to seeing all the regular faces and welcome any new members.
