Golf Society at Down Royal

3 November 2021

A big turnout and some exceptional golf at the latest NOHC Golf Society outing.

On Sunday the 31st October, Newry Olympic Hockey Club's Golf Society made its third outing of 2021 at Down Royal Golf Club. A  very impressive thirty-six people showing up for what would turn out to be an exceptional day’s golf.

The results couldn’t have been any tighter with three players tied with 44 points each, meaning the top three places where decided on the Back Nine Tie Break.

  • In 1st Place was 13 handicapper Hudson McGuffin. After a shaky start he produced some superb golf with 11 steady pars and a birdie on the Par 3 11th Hole. Hudson won the day on the Count Back by hitting 23 points on the back 9.

  • 2nd place went to 18 Handicapper Michael McCullough. Michael produced some very steady golf, hitting 22 points in both 9’s and can be considered very unlucky not to have won on the day.

  • 3rd place went to 22 Handicapper Trevor Anderson. A great front 9 producing 23 points, but with a back 9 of 21 points this cost Trevor picking up top spot.

  • 4th Place went to 18 Handicapper John McCaigue with 42 points.

  • Longest Drive was won by Michael McCullough
  • Closest to pin was won by Mark McCullough

The Golf Society Committee would like to thank everyone who turned up on the day. 36 people playing on the last day in October was a brilliant turn out. The Committee would also like to thank Down Royal Golf Club for accommodating our society and making us feel very welcome.

Next Outing:

On behalf of the Society Committee we would like to thank everyone who turned up and played in the outings in Banbridge, Mannan Castle and Down Royal, all three where superbly supported. This has given the committee great encouragement to organise a full season of events for the 2022 season and a fundraiser in January to keep in touch with all members.

Anyone who hasn’t been involved in 2021 and would like more information, please feel free to contact us as all new members are more than welcome.
