Golf Society's first outing of 2022 at Kilkeel

24 April 2022

A great first outing in the sunshine and wind for the NOHC Golf Society.

On Sunday the 24th April 2022, the Newry Olympic Hockey Club Golf Society had their first outing of the golfing season at Kilkeel Golf Club. Thirty-two members came along to enjoy what would be a superb day of golfing on a tough, windy Kilkeel course.

Newly appointed Golf Society captain Kenny Cowan, tee'd of first to officially start the season. We hope that the season goes much better than Kenny’s tee shot, which ended up in the trees on the 1st hole!!

Although in superb condition, it was a very tough, dry and bouncy course that presented a challenge for everyone.

At the finish it was Davy Irwin and Colin Brown (Bruno) who tied for the lead with 39 points.

  • Davy’s better back nine score of 20 points decided the outcome to narrowly give him 1st place over Colin on the count back. These two scores were really great performances considering the tough, testing conditions on the day.
  • In 3rd place with 34 points was Brian McLeod.

  • Nearest to the pin on the 8th Hole went to Ian McNeill
  • Nearest to the pin on the 15th Hole went to Davy Irwin
  • Longest Drive on the 18th Hole went to Cory Large

The NOHC Golf Society would like to thank Kilkeel Golf Club for providing use of their excellent facilities. The course, food and welcome from the club was first class.

The society committee would also like to thank everyone who came along and made the day so enjoyable.
