On Sunday 19th June, Newry Olympic Hockey Club’s golf society made it’s second outing of the season to Portadown Golf Club. On a cool, windy Sunday morning, 19 members made their way to play a superb parkland course in great condition.
The tricky windy conditions on a tight Portadown golf course kept the scores low, but given the demanding conditions, the overall scores weren’t bad.
In 1st place was 17 Handicapper Richard Nummy with a superb 34 points. This was enough to clinch the Top Prize on the Day.
In 2nd place was 3 Handicapper Ian McNeill with 33 points. Ian was very disappointed not to have scored on two holes, but was delighted to hold a crucial putt on the last hole to stop Jeff from finishing ahead off him!!
In 3rd place was 20 Handicapper Jeff McNeill with 32 points. With a poor front nine, Jeff produced some real steady golf over the last 9 holes to narrowly be beaten into 2nd place.
Newry Olympic Hockey club would like to thank Portadown Golf Club for their welcome and hospitality. Once again this was another well attended Society outing, it was brilliant to meet up again with past/present members of the club. The success of the golf society has been superb, and the Society Committee would really like to thank all past/present members who come and support every outing.
Next up is Kenny Cowan’s Captains Day on Saturday 30th July, at the superb Moyvalley championship course in Dublin. The itinerary for the trip to Moyvalley is as follows:
Cost for all is £85.
There are still limited numbers available for this trip and anyone who hasn’t booked to go, who would like to go, please contact Ian McNeill, Paul McCullough, Kenny Cowan or Brian Lockhart asap; or email us directly.
