Jonny debuts for Ireland Masters

28 September 2021

Congratulations go to Jonny Gregg who has made his debut for Ireland Masters.

Following in the recent footsteps of club members Mervyn McCaigue and Rupert Pinion, Jonny our 1st XI assistant coach, was selected to play for Ireland Over 50's in the Masters International Hockey Series against the other home nations.

The competition was played at The Nottingham Hockey Centre, over the weekend Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd August 2021.

Playing three games in three days, Jonny started as right midfield in all three matches and ended up with one draw and two defeats.

  • Ireland 1:3 Scotland
  • Ireland 2:2 Wales
  • Ireland 1:3 England

Jonny said "The weekend was great craic and the hockey was played to a high standard with very tough matches."

"A late call up to the team was former Newry Olympic member Neil Cunningham. It certainly shows what a small world it is and how the social side of hockey is great for creating friendships old and new."

"I'm really looking forward to the next matches which is an away trip to play Spain and France in October" Jonny added.
