Close game against Portadown, but no points for Newry

Newry Olympic 1s hosted Portadown on Saturday 12 November in the early start of 1pm.

Portadown started well and were confident in possession, but were unable to break down a resolute Newry defence. The visitors continued to dominate the ball and they finally get their first goal through a short corner at the end of the first quarter.

Newry started to come into the game after this forcing a number of short corners, but could not find the back of the net.

In the second half, Portadown continued their possession play, but Newry were able to hit more often on the counter attack with David England and Jeremy Greer both coming close to getting the home side back on level terms.

As Newry pressed forward with only two minutes remaining, Portadown caught them on the counter and won one final short corner which they dispatched at the second attempt to make it 2-0 at the final whistle.
