Once again Olympic's teams were playing home games at Banbridge High School's grounds, while the maintenance work continues on Newry's pitch at the Belfast Road.
North Down 4s were the visitors on Saturday to play Olympic 2s and they started very brightly carving out a number of early chances, but the Newry defence held strong to the early attacks.
Newry’s first real chance came from captain Simon McCafferty, who’s snap shot was brilliantly saved by the North Down keeper. As always, when the ball falls to David Hogg in the circle the keeper will be worked, and this time from a tight angle, Hogg rocketed the ball home to give Newry the lead.
This seemed to give Newry the confidence to push forward and Gareth Moffett from right back found himself in on goal after a great run and slotted home Newry’s second of the game.
The second half ebbed and flowed, with Newry having the best of the chances, Simon Moffett was able to convert his chance to make it three.
However Richard Henning in the Newry goals was called into action a number of times late on, with North Down getting a late consolation goal to make the final score 3-1.
