Newry Olympic ladies came away with a nil nil draw on Saturday 19 November as they took on Derg Valley at home for what was one of their best performances of the season so far.
From the whistle Newry gained procession of the ball and with great passing between the midfield and forwards were able to create numerous opportunities, but just couldn’t get the ball past the strong Derg defence.
During the first half Newry didn’t give Derg any chances, giving home keeper Katie McCullough an easy start to the game.
Into the second half and the Olympic Ladies were determined to get a goal. Centre midfield Kathryn Baird made some great passes to the forwards Rose Clarke and Caralyn Ferris. Both had multiple chances in the circle, but again Derg’s strong defence kept Newry from scoring.
A great performance from the Newry team, who demonstrated fantastic play and created numerous opportunities throughout the game. Despite not getting any goals the home side fought and kept procession the whole match and were by far the better team.
