Newry Olympic ladies hosted League favourites Limavady on Saturday in their first home game of the season. The ladies are back in the Ulster Senior league 3 having taken a year out to rebuild, and with great work from Brian and Thomas Lockhart the ladies’ numbers have now exploded with plenty of young talent starting to come through.
This was a tough learning curve for Newry however, as Limavady dominated the opening quarter catching the home side cold and slightly nervous. Limavady fired in three early goals, however Newry then started to show more resolve shutting out the visitors with the score remaining 3-0 at the break.
In the second half Olympic forced a number of short corners but were unable to convert and were still proving more difficult to break down in defence with Katie McCullough in great form.
Limavady managed to get their fourth late in the third quarter from a penalty flick before getting two more in the final quarter as they pushed high against a tiring Newry side.
