Senior League 3

Olympic Ladies put in a great performanace against the league champions

Newry Olympic Ladies 1s played league winners Castle Ladies from Carrickfergus, in their final match of the season on Wednesday 24th April at Newry's Belfast Road grounds.

It was an unfortunate start for the home side as Castle went one goal up in the first few minutes, but Newry kept their heads up and played some great hockey holding Castle 1-0 for the first quarter.

The Olympic team started stronger in the second quarter, with lovely passes among defence and midfield. Castle however managed to grab another goal, putting them two nil up. With minutes to go to the end of the second quarter, Newry won a short corner and Rose Clarke scored a fantastic goal ending the first half 2-1 to Castle.

Newry felt their way back into the game and it was clear Castle were getting frustrated with the tight marking from the home defence, giving them no opportunities to enter the Newry circle. The Newry ladies fought hard and had a few more opportunities but just couldn’t score.

Castle eventually scored their final goal of the match, ending the game 3-1 to the league winners.

Newry played a fantastic game of hockey against a skilful and well drilled side, making the Castle team work hard for their match winning goals.
