Rathfriland High School win NOHC youth tournament

Newry Olympic held a very exciting youth tournament at the club grounds on the Belfast Road on Saturday 21st May 2022.

With the aims to generate additional interest in hockey with some local competition and to make new friends, the tournament was for 7-a-side teams of girls and boys aged 12 and 13 years old.

There was one team from Tullyvallen Hockey Club, two from Rathfriland High School and one team representing our own Newry Olympic youth section.

Everyone had a great time at the club, helped by the sun shining throughout the day.

Rathfriland High School 'A' team ran out the winners with a total of eight points from their three games.

At the end, Club Chairman Brian Lockhart thanked everyone who took part, with special thanks to club youth coaches Colin Henning, Andrew Baird, Kathryn Baird and Jordan Whiteside, for all their support and input to the tournament.

"It was brilliant to see so many players enjoying themselves and having some parents stay to watch the matches as well" he added.

Brian and the Club Youth Liaison Officer Colin Henning, handed out Newry Olympic Noggin beanies to everyone who played as a memento of the event.
