Newry travelled to Comber on Saturday to try and put last week's defeat behind them
Newry were boosted by the return of Mark Mccullough in midfield with his direct running causing North Down several problems. It was the big midfielder who gave Newry the lead when he finished from a tight angle after McCafferty had played him in.
Scott Blakley was introduced towards the end of the first quarter and his movement and work rate gave the North Down defenders a lot of issues, but there was no further score in the first half.
Newry started the second half well and were two-nil up within minutes when a trademark Davey Hogg rocket gave the keeper no chance.
North Down did create a couple of half chances but the Olympic keeper Richard Henning was on top form
Davey Hogg was again on the score sheet this time from a powerful flick from a penalty corner and he followed it up with another two quick fire goals to take his personal tally to four for the day.
Newry were strong all over the pitch and did create further opportunities but were unable to convert.
As the game drew towards a close, Newry were reduced to nine men when Simon McCafferty and Mark Mccullough were sent to the sin-bin.
North Down did get a consolation goal, but it was a good day at the office for Newry, as the team held on for a brilliant away three points
