Saturday 11th January was the first match of the new year 2025 for Newry Olympic Ladies 2nds, away to South Antrim 5ths in Lisburn.
The home side won the toss and chose to pass back. During the first quarter Newry came under attack from a very young quick South Antrim team and went one nil down. Newry also had a couple of close chances, but just couldn't equalise due to the strong South defence.
The second quarter went much the same as the first quarter, with another two goals conceded by Newry.
The second half saw the visitors change formation and play two up front with four across midfield. Newry found new confidence from this and Caragh McGaffin picked the ball up on the left and drove into the South Antrim circle with Jenna McWilliams on the left wing walloping the ball into the back of the net past the South goalie.
Unfortunately for the Olympic, South Antrim fought back and scored again before the final whistle, making the final score four to South Antrim and one to Newry Olympic 2nds.
Player of the match was Jenna McWilliams for her beautiful goal during the third quarter.
