It was not an easy start to the New Year for the Mens firsts as they travelled to league leaders Bangor on Saturday.
However, in the opening exchanges it looked like Newry might be causing an upset, as they went one up through Marcus Murdock who scored his first goal for the club.
This appeared to awaken Bangor, as they pushed forward and in the 2nd quarter they got back on level terms through a short corner. Just before the break they went up another gear and scored two quick fire goals to make it three one at half time.
The Olympic team tried to somehow get back into the game, but Bangor used their subs well to run the visitors ragged and create space all over the park. They made it four with a slick passing move finding a free player at the back post for a tap in.
Newry continued to fight and pulled one back with a great drag flick from Colin Henning. It proved to be only a consolation as Bangor went on to score two in the last five minutes for a resounding 6-2 victory.
