Olympic Mens 2s kick off the New Year in style at Lisnagarvey

Newry 2’s started 2023 in fine form with a deserved 3-0 victory over Lisnagarvey 5s at Hillsborough on Saturday 7th January.

The home side started the match with their usual fluid passing, but were unable to break through a resolute Newry defence.

Newry started to play their way into the game and were creating chances at will, before Simon Moffett scored the seconds first goal of the New Year and his first of the season.

Captain Simon McCafferty doubled the visitors lead as he finished well from the top of the circle just before the break.

In the second half the Olympic men continued to create and it was stalwart Paul McCullough who lashed home from a tight angle to make it three and all but secure the points for Newry.

The Olympic team started to use their experience to wind down the clock, but not before Richard Henning in goals was called on to make a couple of great late saves.

A good start to the New Year for the men’s 2nds!
