Another away match for Newry Olympic 1s as they travelled to Stormont to take on NI Civil Service on Saturday.
The Olympic competed and fought throughout the game with only 11 first team players available. Civil Service had the full accompaniment and were rolling substitutes regularly to try and tire the visitors out. However this tactic was not working and they were unable to break Newry down until they had a huge slice of luck in the second quarter when a deflected cross caught McGivern out in nets and he could only help the ball into the goal to make it one nil at the break.
Early in the second half Newry got back on level terms when Kris Fletcher fired home from a short corner. The game ebbed and flowed with both sides looking for the decisive second goal.
Civil Service forced a number of short corners early in the fourth quarter and eventually got a break through to get their second of the game.
Newry fired men forward in search of the equaliser and came close with their own corners, but could not get back on level terms and were narrowly beaten 2-1 at the final whistle.
