Ladies take all three points at home against Cookstown

A great 1-nil win for the Newry Olympic Ladies as they played Cookstown Ladies in a home fixture on Saturday 14th January.

Once again Newry started the match strongly and kept Cookstown in their own half with super tackling and passing putting the visitor's defence under pressure early on.

The Olympic Ladies were close to a goal in the first quarter when the ball was played by centre forward Stephanie Smart across Cookstown’s circle to Sarah McNeilly on the right wing who took a shot on goal, but it was well saved by the keeper.

A goal was coming for Newry as they continued to keep the pressure on and created many more chances in the first half.

Newry came out in the second half determined to get a goal. Cookstown had a few early chances, but these were fantastically saved by home keeper Katie McCullough.

With less than 10 minutes to go, Newry secured what proved to be the winning goal when Stacey Moffett passed the ball onto Laverne Inns inside the circle whose shot went towards the right post where Sarah Brookes was perfectly placed to tap it into the goal.

A brilliant performance and a very well-deserved win for the Olympic ladies who fought right to the final whistle.

Back row: Chrissie McAuley, Zara Moffett, Katie McCullough, Rebecca Murdock, Rhianna Hale, Lisa Murdock, Sarah McNeilly, Abbey Haire, Stephanie Smart.

Front row: Stacey Kidd, Kathryn Baird (Captain), Laverne Inns, Rose Clarke, Sarah Brookes.
