Newry travelled to Cookstown on Saturday to try and maintain their 100% start to the season.
Cookstown came out of the blocks quickly, but were unable to break Newry down. Both teams cancelled each other out until the second quarter when Cookstown scored when their centre forward deflected past Richard Henning.
Newry’s task was made much harder when Michael McCullough received a very harsh red card.
Newry continued to battle and carved out a number of chances for forwards Simon McCafferty and Alex Irwin, but the home keeper produced some good saves.
Newry were dealt another blow when they lost both Eddy Graham and Simon McCafferty to injuries, with the former unfortunately ruled out for the rest of the season.
The home team used their numerical advantage and scored 2 late goals to put a bit of gloss on the score line.
It was a battling performance from Newry and a lot of positives can be taken, especially the performances of the Lutton brothers and the return of Alex Irwin.
