'Hockey 4 All' - Volunteers wanted

2 May 2022

Can you help the club to support 'Hockey 4 All'? - An initiative from Hockey Ireland & Ulster Hockey to give everyone the opportunity to play hockey, no matter their ability or disability.

Ulster Hockey is in the process of developing a 'Hockey 4 All' program and have invited Newry Olympic to be part of the journey.

Conor Savage, Ulster Hockey's Good Relations Hockey Officer, outlined the purpose and aims of the program, "We strongly believe that everyone across Ulster should have the opportunity to play hockey, no matter their ability or disability. 'Hockey 4 All' is a model developed by Hockey Ireland in partnership with our local hockey clubs. The purpose is to provide hockey opportunities for those with both physical and intellectual disabilities."

"Ulster Hockey's aim is to work with clubs on a one-to-one basis as well as providing workshops and training opportunities to support coaches and volunteers. The primary purpose of the program is to increase the inclusivity of our sport, however we also aim to provide blitz festivals along with competitive opportunities as the program develops."

"Our ambition with Hockey4All is to engage a number of clubs across Ulster, with the plan to hold a festival day in August for all participants."

Conor continued, "Our support will include, but is not limited to:

  • Training - a variety of online and in-person training opportunities in the coming months
  • Equipment - bespoke equipment to cater for a variety of needs
  • Outreach opportunities - links with community groups to grow participation
  • Club development - wider club development around inclusion and growth
  • Funding - advice and guidance around funding opportunities and support with applications"

If you feel you can help Newry Olympic to be part of this important initiative and are able to offer practical support in any way, please email-us with your details.
