Young Hockey Leaders Award 2022

3 May 2022

Are you aged between 15 and 17? Why not earn a Young Hockey Leaders Award in Newry Olympic during the summer?

The club is keen to support our youth members and offer places on the Ulster Hockey Young Hockey Leaders Course.

Ulster Hockey is currently looking to roll out a number of Young Hockey Leaders Courses over the summer months. We need a minimum of 12 participants to hold the course at the club, so we want to reach out to all members and their friends to give some thought to taking part.

What is the Young Hockey Leaders Award?

The Young Hockey Leaders Award is a 5-hour long course that introduces young people, aged between 15 and 17, to volunteering in their hockey club. The aim of the programme is to enjoy all aspects of the sport of hockey rather than concentrating on playing only.

The programme comprises of 2 modules:

  • Umpiring (2.5 hours)
  • Coaching and Team Management (2.5 hours)

The Young Hockey Leaders Award helps to pass on skills, top tips and most importantly confidence so that Young Leaders can get back out to their clubs in order to put their new found knowledge to use!

In order to complete the award, each leader must attend the 2 modules and then go back to their club to complete 5 hours of contact time.

The cost is £20 per person and will be refunded to all NOHC members by the club.

If you're interested in taking part just email Colin Henning, our Youth Liaison Officer, with your details.
