Newry Olympic ladies travelled to Larne on Saturday 26th February to play their penultimate league game of the season.
With Larne sitting third in the league table, Newry knew they were in for a tough match.
From the whistle Larne put the pressure on the Olympic team, but they worked well to defend their half.
Larne secured their first goal when the ball was played across the circle and deflected in by a striker on the left post. Newry weren’t able to make it into the Larne half much due to Larne constantly pressing forward. Just before the end of the first quarter, Larne won a penalty corner which was well saved by goalie Katie McCullough, but Larne managed to score from the rebound.
The second and third quarters were much the same as the first, with most chances falling to Larne. They added two goals in both quarters to take a 6-0 lead.
Newry made the decision to defend for the remainder of the match which resulted in no goals being conceded in the last quarter.
The Newry ladies faced a strong opposition in Larne and were under constant pressure throughout the match, but once again the whole team fought to the final whistle.
Newry ladies play their last league game of the season against Parkview on Saturday 19th March at home.
