Five new players and two former members have been added to the Mens 1s squad. All are most welcome and are already making a strong impact within the team. Both mens squads went through a rigorous pre-season training program, with friendlies being played in preparation for the main league starting on the 26th September. The 1s played their first game against a strong NICS team and did just enough to win 2-1 with Newry getting stronger as the game went on. Goals from Keith McWilliams and Peter McKnight securing the precious 3 points.
The matches come thick and fast now until Christmas so it’s vital to get positive momentum going into the other games.
Our coaching set up has had a boost with Ivan Steen and Darryl Barlow bringing a wealth of knowledge to the sideline and helping to coach the 2s squad along with great additional support to the 1s training sessions. The additional input from Ivan and Darryl is proving to be beneficial to all players during training sessions. We will continue to ensure the sessions are planned, relevant and instructive moving forward.
Unfortunately, we had a long term injury to goalkeeper Richard McGivern that has sidelined him for the rest of this season. We wish Richard the very best in his treatment and subsequent return to hockey.
