Newry Olympic 2s 5-0 Kilkeel 3s

25 September 2021

Junior League 3

Newry hosted Kilkeel on Saturday to try and keep their 100% record In the league.

Newry started well and should have taken the lead after having numerous penalty corners, but failed to make any of them count.

It was all Newry in the opening quarter with chances falling to McCafferty and Porter, but the Kilkeel keeper kept the away side in it. Kilkeel had a few breakaway chances, but Richard Henning was again solid in the Newry net.

It took Newry to the 3rd quarter to open the scoring, McCafferty scrambling the ball home after some terrific Newry pressure from Porter, Blakely and Large.

McCafferty got his second minutes later when he turned neatly in the circle and fired into the roof of the net giving the home keeper no chance.

McCafferty completed his hat trick when Josh Porter slipped the ball to him and he made no mistake from the middle of the circle.

It was all Newry in the final quarter and they scored a 4th goal when Josh Porter finished well following a strong run from midfield slotting past the stranded keeper.

Corey Large scored Newry’s 5th of the day with a strong strike into the side netting to ensure that Newry got all 3 points and their unbeaten start to the season remaining intact.

Thanks again go to Sam Henry for umpiring the game.
