Newry Olympic Ladies endured a tough game against Castle from Carrickfergus, who had dropped down from Senior 2 last season.
From the whistle Newry were put under pressure and struggled to get the ball out of their own half. With only 10 minutes in, Castle played a ball to their left winger in the circle who slipped the ball past goalkeeper Katie McCullough into the bottom corner.
The second quarter was much the same. The home side remained under pressure with Castle playing a high press, and Olympic needed to bring their mids and forwards back to help defend.
Newry went into the second half with more fight and determination and managed to get into Castle's half when mid fielder Kathryn Baird took the ball around multiple Castle players, but couldn’t get the ball to the forwards due to the strong defence from the opposition.
Castle won a few more short corners, but with the great work of Newry’s defence were unable to score. In a drive forward, Newry’s sweeper Chrissie McAuley played a lovely ball down to right winger Yasmin Muldrew who took the ball into Castle's circle and had a shot on goal, but it was well saved by their keeper.
With not long to go until the end of the match, Castle scored another goal, ending the game deserved three-nil winners.
