Newry Olympic Mens 1s hosted NI Civil Service on Saturday 28th September in their second game of the Linden Cup group phase and ran out comfortable winners.
NICS dropped down from the Premier League last season so Newry knew they would have their work cut out to take any points from the game.
The Olympic team started well creating a chance on their first attack resulting in a short corner, but could not convert. At the second attempt David England did slot home from a short corner to give Newry the lead in the first quarter.
It was nip and tuck between the sides until half time as the home side went in with a slender lead.
Newry flew out of the traps in the second half with Corey Large deflecting home from a Josh Porter cross, and only minutes later it was three when Porter got on the score sheet himself.
Service started to get into the game after this and managed to get one back, but Newry kicked on again when Scott Blakley used his pace to break through the defence and knock the ball around the advancing keeper who upended him. Blakley stepped up to slot the resulting penalty stroke home. And with five minutes left Josh Porter got his second and Newry's fifth to round off a resounding 5-1 win.
That's two wins from two and ten goals scored for Olympic in the Linden Cup Group phase with one more match to go.
