On Saturday 30th July, Newry Olympic Hockey Club’s golf society took their first bus trip for the eagerly awaited society Captain’s Day.
The society went to the Championship Golf Course of Moyvalley in the village of Enfield in Dublin. This course has held numerous competitions and professional events over the years, but nothing as prestigious as Kenny Cowan's captain’s day! With a superb 32 people turning out for the trip away, this was one of the best attended society outings to date and did not disappoint with a great day's craic.
On the day, with 32 very competitive golfers raring to go, it was no other than the Hockey Club Captain himself, Jeremy Greer, who took 1st place with a superb 41 points. A brilliant back 9 of 22 points helped contribute to this score on what was a wet afternoon for golf.
In 2nd place was Colin Brown with 40 points. Two very steady 9 holes of 20 points on each 9 was enough to secure 2nd place. A costly double bogey on the par 3 14th prevented Colin from claiming 1st spot.
In 3rd place was veteran Michael McCullough with 38 points.
The Society Committee would like to thank everyone who attended and made the first bus trip a memorable day out. The next Society outing is local at Tandragee Golf Club on the 25th September. More details will follow soon about this.
Again, the committee would like to extend its' welcome to any Newry Olympic Hockey Club present or ex-member who would like to get involved in the Golf Society. Please feel free to contact any of the Golf Society committee members for details for upcoming events or email us directly.
