Armagh U18s 2-0 Newry Olympic U18s

28 February 2022

Ulster Hockey Girls U18 League

The Girls U18’s travelled to Armagh on Monday 28th February for the return fixture of their Ulster Hockey U18 league group match.

The Olympic girls dominated the first quarter, with centre-mid Brianna Gregg laying off some great passes to centre-forward Rose Clarke, who worked well to drive forward into the circle and was unlucky not to score. Just before the whistle for the end of the first quarter, Newry won a penalty corner but the ball unfortunately slipped narrowly wide.

Armagh came out strongly in the second quarter, but the Newry girls defended well and held out until near the end of the quarter when Armagh played the ball into the circle and it was deflected past goalkeeper Katie McCullough for the first goal.

The second half was very evenly contested, with opportunities to score for both sides. Rose Clarke had a great run and was one-on-one with the home keeper, who made a great save to clear the ball.

With ten minutes to go, Armagh scored their second goal of the match to take a 2-0 lead, which was how the game ended.

The Newry Olympic girls played some great hockey throughout the match and were unlucky not to come away with at least a point from the game.
