Boys U11s & U13s make their debut in Garvey Blitz

30 January 2022

Newry Olympic Boys U11 & U13 teams made their competitive debut in Ulster Hockey's Southern Area Blitz at Lisnagarvey, on Sunday 30th January.

Not only were these the first games of the season for both teams, history was also made on the day as it was the first time a boy's Under 11 side has represented the club.

Both teams gave a great account of themselves at the blitz and despite the cold afternoon at Garvey, everyone really enjoyed the games.

The U11's played against Ballynahinch and three teams from Lisnagarvey. They ended up with a fantastic win, two draws and a loss.

The U13's faced opposition from Banbridge, South Antrim as well as the home club Lisnagarvey and ended up with a really brilliant two wins, one draw and a loss.

U11's squad:

Annalee Gregg, Solomon Gregg, Leo Magill, Aleksander McGaffin, Rueben McCullough, Luke McGrath

U13's squad:

Jayden Dodds, Jamie Henning, Brianna Gregg, Drew Hazley, Caragh McGaffin, Thomas Richie, Nathan McCready, Oliver Reilly-Swales, Jack Weir

Special thanks to our girl players Annalee and Brianna Gregg and Caragh McGaffin, who helped boost the numbers on the sides.

And congratulations to youth coaches Colin Henning and Jonny Gregg for all their hard work to get the teams so well organised for the blitz. Everyone's really looking forward to the next one!!
