Newry Olympic Men's 1s travelled to CIYMS in Belfast on Saturday 25 November for their most recent league fixture, looking to get back to winning ways after a 3-2 defeat to PSNI.
From the start Newry dominated much of the possession, pinning the home side back for long periods. It wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken when Colin Henning burst through the CI defence and found an unmarked Andrew Baird in the centre of the circle for a simple tap in.
The visitors forced a number of short corners, but could not find their second before the break at half time.
Early in the third quarter, Noah Lutton stepped up to fire home a drag flick for his first goal in senior hockey. This was the start of a purple patch as the visitors got another just five minutes later, with Keith McWilliams getting Newry’s third of the day with a fierce reverse stick shot which was too hot for the keeper to stop.
Another of Olympic’s young guns got involved in the fourth goal, with James Macauley finding Corey Large at the back post to deflect home to wrap up a comprehensive win for Newry.
The Mens 1s travel to Portrush next in the league.
