Those old enough to remember, will know that where the hockey club and grounds now stand was once a field that was one of the first places in the Newry area to flood if there was heavy rainfall.
It's amazing the difference that forty years and thousand of tons of hard core fill can make!
With a depth of around six meters of fill at the bank of the Clanrye River, the club escaped the ravages of the floods that so severely affected the surrounding area and the businesses and homes around Sugar Island in the city centre.
The contrasting views below of the river, the canal and our neighbour's paddock at the Newry side of the club grounds, give an idea of the volume of water at the peak of the flooding on the 1st November 2023.
Hopefully all those businesses impacted will be up and running soon again.
The final photo shows where the water breached the middle bank and is flowing between the Newry Canal and the Clanrye
