Golf Society in Ballymac & Golfer of the Year standings

Ian McNeill • 23 June 2024

On Sunday 23rd June, Newry Olympic Hockey Club Golf Society made the short trip to the Ballymac Golf Club in Dundalk.

It was a hot day for golf with the weather being unreal and the Ballymac in stunning condition, the Society Members were in for a treat on a brilliant parkland golf course!

With 24 Members making the trip, Trevor Anderson was in hot form to take first spot with two birdies on the front nine. Trevor got through to the half-way stage with 19 points. With a steady back nine, the double bogey on the last hole didn’t stop him from doing enough to take the honours on the day.

In second place was Society Captain Jeff McNeill. Jeff had a very good front nine producing 20 points. No score on the 10th hole proved very costly however as this surely prevented Jeff from taking top spot. It was a fortunate bounce from a very wayward tee shot on the last hole which helped Jeff par the last and comfortably secure 2nd place.

In third place was Ryan McIlroy with a steady front nine of 19 points. Ryan was in good shape at the half-way point, but with only 3 points over the last three holes this prevented Ryan from climbing higher up the leaderboard.

Closest to the Pin on the 5th hole was won by Ryan McIlroy.

Longest Drive on the 18th hole was won by Paul McCullough with a 300 yard drive.

After the golf in the Ballymac the society members all enjoyed a BBQ back at the Hockey Club.

All the members would like to thank Jeff McNeill and Phil McNeill for cooking the food on what turned out to be a brilliant day out for all involved.
