Raphoe 2-1 Newry Olympic

Premier League

Newry Olympic Men First’s terrible run of form continued on Saturday as they lost 2-1 away to Donegal side Raphoe.

The visitors dominated large parts of the game, but could not find the quality in the final third to make the pressure pay off.

Raphoe sat in and defended resolutely, happy to try and pick off Newry on the counter attack, which they nearly did on a number of occasions.

It wasn’t until the third quarter that Olympic did manage to pick the lock and McWilliams found Peter McKnight with a great reverse stick pass in the centre of the circle and he slotted home for the visiting team to take the lead.

Newry continued to press forward and were denied by the keeper from successive short corners. However Raphoe hit Olympic on the counter attack and got back on level terms.

With only two minutes remaining Raphoe won a short corner and fired it home to take all three points.

After the match, Jonny Gregg presented Raphoe player Tom Eaton with a salver from NOHC in memory of the former Raphoe club stalwart, Richard Eaton.
