Newry Olympic Ladies 2nds travelled away with eleven players to Aurora Sports Centre in Bangor for a 12.45 pass back against the local Bangor Ladies 4ths XI.
Newry won the toss with play very much equal in the first quarter. Some excellent shots from vice-captain Chrissie McAuley pushed the Bangor side to defend for the first quarter.
In the second quarter there was more pressure from the home team, but some lovely defensive skills from Olympic's Jodie Freeman, Sara Adams and Rebekah McFarland kept the score at zero.
During the third quarter Newry came under attack as Bangor pushed seven players up into the Newry circle and unfortunately they scored to make it one nil. Newry kept their heads up with Caragh McGaffin in left mid along with captain, Laverne Inns strengthening and supporting the Newry defence.
Bangor secured three corners which were set wide, but kept up immense pressure with a number of crash balls which were unfortunately deflected into the Newry nets through two own goals.
In the final quarter Newry fought back driving the ball up to Arya Freeman and Sarah McNeely on the wings, but Bangor pulled seven players back to counter any attempts to score. At the other end, Newry's goalkeeper Abbey Moffett cleared her lines again and again until the final whistle to prevent any further goals which left the final score at 3-nil to Bangor.
Newry Olympic Ladies would like to thank Norman Toombs for travelling to umpire the match.
