Newry Olympic Ladies 2nds played at home against Instonians 3rds on Friday 8th December 2023, on what was one of the most cold, miserable and wettest nights of the year so far.
The pitch remained in good condition despite flooding elsewhere.
Newry started strongly with only eleven players, however Instonians had a full squad of sixteen.
A strong battle ensued during the first quarter, however Inst quickly realised that to score they would have to leave a player up the field close to the Newry keeper and shortly before the end of the first quarter the visitors went one nil up.
In the second quarter Olympic had some chances and remained strong throughout but failed to equalise.
In the third quarter Inst tried the same tactic as before and Newry were caught out twice, conceding two more goals despite some gallant efforts from the home defence.
Newry achieved their first corner in the final quarter thanks to Arya Freeman on left wing, but unfortunately the attack were unable to convert the chance.
The final score was 3 - 0 to Instonians.
