Building a website is more than just getting a few words online, it is essential to take time to consider the content (copy and images) as well as who will be visiting your site (personas) to provide an optimal user experience.
When building the Newry Olympic Hockey Club website we had a lot of content to publish and a variety of user journeys to consider, so we wanted to ensure visitors could get to where they want to quickly and still be able to see all other options on the site. As well as considering existing members who want to get to their team information quickly, we needed to factor in sponsors, facilities hire enquiries and prospective members who want to know more about the club and register. Ensuring information is clear and easy to find reduces the club’s admin effort involved in responding to general enquiries and frequently asked questions.
Linking to an online membership system also enhances new and existing member experiences and keeps information secure providing reassurance of data protection and the ability to control their own data. It also facilitates today’s lifestyle of being able to quickly self-serve and pay online.
Other things to consider when building the website is ensuring it is mobile friendly as over 60% of website visitors now use mobile devices to access websites. Also, it needed to be on a system that was easy for the club to mostly maintain themselves going forward to reduce club costs in using external website agencies. At PM Getting It Done, we support not-for-profits and community clubs by keeping implementation costs as low as possible, providing transparent advice from previous experiences and offering the best solution for now and the future.
We hope you enjoy using the new offering from the club.
